Question: Have there been any tornadoes in the Augusta area?
Answer: Tornadoes occasionally hit our area. Just this year, back on March 1, two F2 tornadoes caused major damage in portions of Thomson and Warrenton. The last tornado to hit Augusta was an F2 in December 2000 which injured 8 people along Brown Road in South Richmond County. In February 1878 a tornado hit downtown Augusta causing major damage and killing at least two people.

Mar 2007 McDuffie and Warren County, F2, homes and businesses severely damaged.
Feb 2003 Columbia County, F2, barn and sheds destroyed, homes damaged.
Dec 2000 South Augusta F2, 8 injured, several homes destroyed.
May 1998 Lincolnton, F2 8 injured, 12 homes destroyed
May 1998 Edgefield, F3 1 killed, 9 injured, 50 homes destroyed or severely damaged
Nov 1995 Monetta, F2 1 injured, 4 chicken houses and 1 peach processing plant destroyed
Apr 1957 Columbia County, unknown, homes severely damaged.
Feb 1878 Downtown Augusta, 2 killed, severe damage throughout downtown, widespread destruction
Mar 1895 Downtown Augusta, unknown, 20 houses leveled
