NBC Augusta 26 News will be holding its annual Storm Spotter Meeting on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 10 a.m. The public is invited to attend.
Steve Naglic, the Warning Coordination Meteorologist from the National Weather Service Office in West Columbia, S.C. will be the speaker. The purpose of the meeting is to provide basic storm spotter certification for the weather service's Skywarn program. Skywarn is a volunteer program with nearly 280,000 trained severe weather spotters. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the National Weather Service.
The certification is free of charge and only requires attendees to listen to an approximately two-hour long presentation covering a wide variety of severe weather. Spotters will be taught how to report estimated hail size, how to determine if a cloud is a funnel cloud, the dangers of flash floods, and more.
To attend, you must sign up by Thursday, Feb. 5th by clicking here. The meeting will be held at the NBC Augusta studio at 905 Broad Street in downtown Augusta.
